A writing prompt was posted the other day and I took interest in it. The other writers did a smash-up job creating a story to go along with a black and white photo from a dark moment in American history. I gave myself a few minutes to write to the photo. Driving home from work I realized that I did a smash-up job gathering Southern stereotypes and dumping them on the page. I realized what sets the others’ work apart from mine: their originality. So I have learned from this. The prompts keep me learning, and I am so grateful for that.
I saw the picture – had no idea it was an iconic history moment – just looked like a couple of unpleasant people! hopefully the August challenge will give you more scope to let your words fly 🙂

Hi Julia. The robes they’re wearing look like the robes the Klan wears here. Scary, nasty people. Yes, let’s see what flies through the August door.

Ah … THAT prompt. Hated, hated, hated it so much I couldn’t bring myself to even read others’ entries.
But yes, the August challenge … certainly enabled my imagination to fly. Look forward to yours.

Wow, why did you hate the prompt so much? Was it the subject matter, I guess? Well, they don’t all speak to us, that’s for sure. Should try the August challenge soon. !

Was the repellent ugliness of their faces; I didn’t pick up on the context, took the clothes to be merely eccentric/aged
